A series of four 50-minute workshops in beginner tap dance for adults and teens with instructor Kevin Doyle will be held on Saturdays, April 1, 8, 15, and 22, from 1:00-1:50 p.m. This workshop is designed for total beginner adults and teens as well as those who took Kevin's February workshop. Minimum of 6 students needed. Fee is $100; pre-payment is necessary. Any hard-soled shoe, whether taps, or hard rubber or all leather, or dance sneakers is fine for this beginner class. Please wear loose, comfortable clothing. Join us and let your body and your feet do the talking as you'll step into the world of American Tap Dance with basic beginner steps and terminology. We will tap into some of the old classic dance routines such as the Waltz Clog, Tea for Two, and others with Kevin Doyle as he learned them from his teacher, the legendary Theresa Landry.
Kevin Doyle received a National Heritage Fellowship Award, the nation's highest honor in the folk and traditional arts, from the National Endowment for the Arts in Washington, D.C. in 2014. He earned U.S. Irish Dance Champion honors and expanded his repertoire to include American tap, inspired by Fox Point famous son George M. Cohan. At age ten, Kevin began study at Pawtucket's famous Theresa Landry School of Dancing. Kevin performed for many years with Pendragon and has been the lead dancer and choreographer for WGBH's A Christmas Celtic Sojourn shows several times, leads Roscommon Soles, and performs with Kieran Jordan, Childsplay and many more.
