As part of our Heritage Arts Studio initiative, Blackstone River Theatre pursues arts education outreach by offering classes and workshops at the theatre with respected performers and teachers. This initiative allows the community to discover or reconnect with traditional art forms (music, song, dance, folk, visual and literary arts) and become PARTICIPANTS in our regional arts heritage.
Heritage Arts Studio offerings for Spring 2023 will include two levels of fiddle workshops with Cathy Clasper-Torch. Tir Na Nog Irish Dance will offer three days of non-competitive Irish step dance classes for children and teens with instructor Erika Damiani. Ed Sweeney will offer beginner, continuing beginner and advanced beginner 5-string banjo on Saturdays. We will offer workshops in continuing beginner mountain dulcimer with Aubrey Atwater. Aubrey will lead a May 8 workshop in Singing Traditional Folk Songs and she will also teach occasional clogging workshops. Kyle Forsthoff will offer total beginner and intermediate workshops in bodhran (Irish drum) . We will again offer classes in continuing and advanced beginner Ukulele with Armand Aromin, a four-week session in Beginner Tap Dance for Adults and workshops in continuing beginner Irish step dance for adults with Kevin Doyle. A rhythm bones workshop for beginners & continuing beginners with Dean Robinson will be held on May 13. Look for a two-day workshop in Celtic stone carving with Laura Travis May 6-7, 2023.
