As part of our Heritage Arts Studio initiative, Blackstone River Theatre pursues arts education outreach by offering classes and workshops at the theatre with respected performers and teachers. This initiative allows the community to discover or reconnect with traditional art forms (music, song, dance, folk, visual and literary arts) and become PARTICIPANTS in our regional arts heritage.

UPDATED 12/28/2020
With the continued severity of the Coronavirus pandemic, Blackstone River Theatre must follow local, state and national guidelines and remain closed until further notice. There will be NO CLASSES throughout 2020. We plan to offer several classes via ZOOM starting mid-January 2021, and hopefully offer some smaller classes in the main hall (maximum ten students) starting in late winter.

Dates and info below are obviously incorrect but will be updated as new information becomes clear!

Heritage Arts Studio offerings for Winter 2020 will include seven levels of fiddle classes with Cathy Clasper-Torch. Tir Na Nog Irish Dance will offer 24 levels of non-competitive Irish step dance classes for children and teens (hard shoe, soft shoe, troupe) with instructor Erika Damiani. Ed Sweeney will offer advance beginner classes in guitar and beginner, cont. beginner, and intermediate 5-string banjo on Saturdays. Ed will also offer a Group Guitar Workshop for intermediate guitar players on Mondays. We will offer 6-week classes in continuing beginner and advanced beginner Ukulele with Armand Aromin. Workshops in beginner Irish step dance for adults with Kevin Doyle will be scheduled. We will offer workshops in intermediate mountain dulcimer with Aubrey Atwater and total beginner and continuing beginner mountain dulcimer with Elwood Donnelly. Elwood will also teach a basket weaving workshop. Aubrey will lead a class in Singing Traditional Folk Songs and she will also teach a clogging workshop sometime soon. There will also be a new harmonica workshop with Elwood Donnelly. Look for a two-day workshop in Celtic stone carving with Laura Travis in the Fall. Kyle Forsthoff will offer total beginner and continuing beginner workshops in bodhran (Irish drum) and there will be a rhythm bones workshop for continuing beginners with Dean Robinson. We also continue our popular Zumba classes on Monday evenings with April Hilliker.

Classes will need to be paid for in advance via check or PayPal as of January, 2021. (No cash please!)

So we can be assured of meeting the minimum needed to hold any of our class offerings, BRT NEEDS PRE-PAYMENT AT LEAST 3 DAYS BEFORE THE START OF ANY CLASS (and hopefully sooner!) or we'll need to cancel at that time.
