As part of our Heritage Arts Studio initiative, Blackstone River Theatre pursues arts education outreach by offering classes and workshops at the theatre with respected performers and teachers. This initiative allows the community to discover or reconnect with traditional art forms (music, song, dance, folk, visual and literary arts) and become PARTICIPANTS in our regional arts heritage.

Heritage Arts Studio offerings for Winter 2018 will include a 6-week session of six levels of fiddle classes with Cathy Clasper-Torch including two total beginner levels. We will offer an 8-week session of non-competitive Irish step dance classes for children and teens (18 different classes levels) with instructor Erika Damiani including eight troupe classes geared for performance as part of Tir Na Nog Irish Dance. We continue our popular Zumba classes on Monday evenings with April Hilliker. Ed Sweeney will offer a 6-week series of continuing beginner classes in both guitar and 5-string banjo on Saturdays and a new 6-week Group Guitar Workshop for intermediate guitar players on Mondays. We will also offer a 6-week continuing beginner class in bodhran (Irish drum) with Kyle Forsthoff in the Spring. Also, look for a two-day workshop in Celtic stone carving with Laura Travis in May. We will also offer an April 7 workshop in continuing mountain dulcimer with Aubrey Atwater and beginner mountain dulcimer with Elwood Donnelly. On April 21 we will offer a two-hour clogging workshop with Aubrey Atwater and Elwood Donnelly will offer a 4-hour basket weaving workshop.

Visit the specific class links from the drop down menu off of this CLASSES link for full information. We are working to incorporate the ability to pay for classes via PayPal and we now intend on beginning that option in Fall, 2018.

So we can be assured of meeting the minimum needed to hold any of our class offerings, BRT NEEDS PRE-PAYMENT AT LEAST 3 DAYS BEFORE THE START OF ANY CLASS (and hopefully sooner!) or we'll need to cancel at that time.
If you are interested in any class, please:
