As part of our Heritage Arts Studio initiative, Blackstone River Theatre pursues arts education outreach by offering classes and workshops at the theatre with respected performers and teachers. This initiative allows the community to discover or reconnect with traditional art forms (music, song, dance, folk, visual and literary arts) and become PARTICIPANTS in our regional arts heritage.

Heritage Arts Studio offerings for Winter 2020 will include an 8-week session of seven levels of fiddle classes with Cathy Clasper-Torch in Jan-March. Tir Na Nog Irish Dance will offer 24 levels of non-competitive Irish step dance classes for children and teens (hard shoe, soft shoe, troupe) with instructor Erika Damiani. Ed Sweeney will offer a 6-week series of advance beginner classes in guitar and beginner, cont. beginner, and intermediate 5-string banjo on Saturdays in Feb.-March. Ed will also offer a 6-week Group Guitar Workshop for intermediate guitar players on Mondays as well as a Fingerpicking Beatles Guitar class. We offer 6-week classes in total beginner, continuing beginner, and advanced beginner Ukulele with Armand Aromin Jan.-March. Beginner Irish step dance for adults with Kevin Doyle will take place Winter, 2020. We will offer March 21 and April 11 workshops in intermediate mountain dulcimer with Aubrey Atwater and total beginner and continuing beginner mountain dulcimer with Elwood Donnelly. Elwood will also teach a basket weaving workshop March 28. Aubrey will lead a class in Singing Traditional Folk Songs April 1, 8, 15 and also teach a clogging workshop on April 4. There will also be a new harmonica workshop with Elwood Donnelly on April 4. Look for a two-day workshop in Celtic stone carving with Laura Travis on May 2-3. Kyle Forsthoff will offer a continuing beginner workshop in bodhran (Irish drum) Jan.-March. We also continue our popular Zumba classes on Monday evenings with April Hilliker.

We are working to incorporate the ability to pay for classes via PayPal and we now intend on beginning that option in mid-Winter, 2020.
