Ideal for families with children ages 6-and-up. Aubrey Atwater, Elwood Donnelly and Cathy Clasper-Torch will present "Traditional Music for Children," a captivating program of original and traditional folk music for children performed on the guitar, fiddle, mountain dulcimer, Irish whistle, and old-time banjo. Drawing repertoire from original songs, as well as those collected in New England, Ireland, Appalachia and beyond, Aubrey and Elwood emphasize participation as they joke and interact throughout the show encouraging the audience to sing, dance, clap, and use body movements. This fun-filled show answers questions such as What is folk music? What did people do for entertainment before electricity? How was folk music used in daily life and work?
The Atwater-Donnelly Trio will be joined on the Youngfolk Stage by a wonderful young group of musicians who call themselves Trua. Trua is a Gaelic term for kindness, and it's also a seven member band of young teen folk musicians with an Irish twist. They are homegrown and home schooled in southern New England and wish to thank all their wonderful teachers for their inspiration and good humor. Trua is: Kaitlin Gallagher - Fiddle; Megan Gallagher - whistle, flute; Ruby May Miller - guitar, whistle; Evelyn Miller - fiddle, whistle; Samuel Miller - bodhran, harmonica, whistle; Torrin Ryan - pipes, irish whistles; and Flannery Brown - cello, whistle. Ruby May, Evelyn and Samual Miller are also highly-regarded Irish step dancers. Trua will perform on their own as well as join the Atwater-Donnelly Trio for a few tunes. |
