Aubrey Atwater will teach this new class offering on Ballad Singing. Enjoy immersing yourself in the world of the ancient story song! Traditional Anglo, Celtic, Appalachian and Ozark ballads leave no stones unturned when it comes to portraying the human experience. In keeping with ballad sessions and encounters throughout her career with great ballad singers such as Jean Ritchie, Betty Smith, singers from the Inishowen Pennisula, Sheila Kay Adams, Pete Seeger, Doc Watson, and more, Aubrey will present a generous swath of story songs with themes of work, the sea, humor, love, disguise, betrayal, murder, longing, nature, and more. Participants are welcome to share ballads they know as well. Come sit "knee to knee" with Aubrey for a singing, historical, and cultural adventure!
